Statement – SAR Camp September 4–7, 2025
This camp is being initiated from within the sea rescue “bubble.” We are aware that this perspective is limited: the organizing group is majority white, non-disabled, and holds multiple privileges. We know that this means we do not automatically include certain experiences and needs of people affected by racism, colonialism, ableism, border violence, and other forms of oppression.
We understand the struggle against the white, European border regime as our responsibility. We see it as our task not only to criticize these systems on a theoretical level but also to concretely question them in our work and in the design of the camp, and to create spaces that are as inclusive and accessible as possible.
We see critique and feedback as a central foundation for improving our work and for creating inclusive spaces. If you have ideas, comments, or suggestions on how we can make the camp safer and more accessible, please reach out to us directly. Either by email, in person on site, or anonymously through our feedback box at the camp!
